So my teacher recently on his facebook fan page came out with this statement.
"Did you know "hot" yoga is a generic term for any kind of yoga taught by anyone in a room that is 105+ degrees. It was started by certified Bikram instructors who were banned from using his name for various reasons. However, since it is not really a system of hatha yoga developed by anyone the name has become a free-for-all. Ghosh's 84 asanas are NOT "hot" yoga. The Yoga Challenge series is NOT "hot" yoga."
Now while I agree with much of this statement, should we who are NOT bikram affilated and teach from the Ghosh lineage call ourselves Hot Yoga?
While the community is just starting to create diverse systems based on the 84 asanas, should we call ourselves something else or call a spade a spade?
My teacher, even though he was trained by bikram clearly wants nothing to do with anything calling itself Hot Yoga.
What do you think?
